Weekend Outlook: January 9th-11th
January 07, 2009
Weekend, weekend, who has the weekend? I feel like I'm coming off a month-long-weekend, but being back at the grind has made me remember that normal, non-holiday weekends, are just as important as those involving Santa. So, here's what's happening at a place near you:
Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is being produced at the Louis B. Mayer Theater in Santa Clara at both 9:30am and 11:00am this Friday. These shows are part of the "School Series" so feel free to bring the older kids (they suggest K-5). Perfect for the homeschooling family.
Maybe you think pre-schoolers are too young to learn about history, and the history of war in particular, but there is a very interesting exhibit at the Saratoga History Museum. What makes this exhibit interesting is that it includes items donated or loaned from local residents whose families or persons were impacted in some way by World War II. A great combination of local, national, and world history all in one intimate venue that won't intimidate little kids. The exhibit is open on Saturday from 1pm to 4pm. It is possible to have conversations with small children about the history of the world, but it's easier when it's presented as the story of someone's family, and that's what is great about little exhibits like this one.
And on Sunday join The Hip Waders live in concert at the Community School of Music and Arts in Mountain View. Two performances are on offer on Sunday, one at 2pm, and the other at 4pm.
